Commitment to Inclusion

Accessibility Statement

Petal Research is committed to ensuring that our website is accessible to everyone, including people with disabilities.

Our Commitment

Petal Research is committed to ensuring digital accessibility for people with disabilities. We continually improve the user experience for all visitors and apply relevant accessibility standards.

We believe that all users — regardless of ability, technology, or context — deserve equal access to our products, research information, and services. Accessibility is not an afterthought; it is part of how we build and maintain this website.

Conformance Standards

We aim to conform to the Web Content Accessibility Guidelines (WCAG) 2.1 Level AA. These guidelines explain how to make web content more accessible to people with disabilities and are published by the World Wide Web Consortium (W3C).

Our website is partially conformant with WCAG 2.1 Level AA. "Partially conformant" means that some parts of the content do not fully conform to the accessibility standard, and we are actively working to address those areas.

Measures We Have Taken

Petal Research takes the following measures to ensure accessibility of our website:

  • Include accessibility as a requirement when building new features and pages
  • Use semantic HTML landmarks (header, main, nav, footer) to aid screen reader navigation
  • Provide descriptive alt text for all meaningful images, including product photography
  • Maintain sufficient color contrast ratios (minimum 4.5:1 for body text) throughout the site
  • Ensure all form fields have associated labels and descriptive placeholder text
  • Implement ARIA roles and attributes (role="dialog", aria-modal, aria-label) on interactive components such as modals and cart drawers
  • Support keyboard-only navigation for all interactive elements
  • Provide visible focus indicators for keyboard and switch-device users
  • Use a responsive layout that adapts to different screen sizes and zoom levels up to 400%
  • Avoid using color as the sole means of conveying information
  • Ensure links have descriptive text (avoiding "click here" or "read more" in isolation)

Known Limitations

Despite our best efforts, there may be some areas that do not yet fully meet WCAG 2.1 AA. The following known limitations exist and we are actively working to resolve them:

In Progress Checkout form field labels

Some checkout form fields currently rely on placeholder text rather than persistent visible labels. We are implementing associated <label> elements.

In Progress Focus indicator visibility

Focus outlines are suppressed in some custom components. We are restoring visible focus styles using :focus-visible across all interactive elements.

Planned Small gray text contrast

Certain secondary text elements use a gray color that may not meet 4.5:1 contrast ratio against white backgrounds at smaller sizes.
